Other Characters Played: Rapunzel

Character: Kairi
Series: Kingdom Hearts
Age: 15
History: "Don't ever forget. Wherever you go, I'm always with you."
Canon Point: KHII: After the portal that returns her to Destiny Islands in The World That Never Was closes on Sora and Riku.

Personality: Kairi is a kind, sincere, and caring individual. Whilst not completely lacking in naivity, she does have a sensible head on her shoulders. If someone is hurt or upset, she shows great concern - completely genuine concern. Even if they rebuke it, she's likely to push the issue until she is sure you are truly alright. She likes to help others when she can, even if there is, realistically, no way she can help. Alongside this, she is also quite sociable, and is very open and friendly to others - she may not make friends as quickly as Sora does (which is practically in five seconds), but her good nature usually brings people around.

Whilst she's somewhat lighthearted and fun loving, the year Kairi's spent alone, away from her friends, has led her to mature a lot. Whilst she still has those qualities, she seems more quiet and softspoken than she was before, falling into long silences and not laughing as much as she used to. However, she is still in possession of that same gentle presence around her. That's not to say she's always a gentle soul - whilst somewhat passive, she has an extraordinary amount of courage and determination when it comes to protecting her friends. Even in her first Keyblade fight, she managed to succeed due to wanting to protect her friends. However, Kairi is more likely to be on the defensive than on the offensive, as she has very little physical strength due to the fact she didn't get drawn into the actual fighting until recently.

Because of this, she can be considered to be somewhat of a damsel in distress - she does have a tendency to get kidnapped, and often. This is plausibly an attribute to the fact she is an easier target than Sora and Riku. Plus, there is her importance to Sora - Kairi being in danger is likely to spur Sora into action. As Saix put it, she is "the fire that feeds Sora's anger".

When it comes to devotion and loyalty, Kairi has it with buckets to spare. Her loyalty and devotion is completely unwavering, and her beliefs are utterly firm. For a period of time, she forgot about Sora completely, due to Naminé's interference - but she still remained loyal to him. Which, is pretty extraordinary, when she couldn't even remember his name. Trying to sway her away from these beliefs will leave you empty handed, as she's very stubborn when it comes to them, and her devotion truly shines.

It's not often that she gets upset, but when she does, she makes it known. Similarly, it's not often that she truly dislikes someone - which can be considered a subconscious effort to find the good in everyone, as she is a Princess of Heart. When she does get upset, she can get angry and shows her distaste and dislike for you by her expressions as well as actions. Her responses also get somewhat evasive.

Skills and Abilities:

Keyblade: Kairi is a Keyblade wielder, though untrained. During the events of Birth by Sleep, Kairi inherited Aqua's keyblade accidently (and the Keyblade accepted her as the heir). Even though logically, she could have called it to her at this point, Kairi never does, most likely unaware of this status: it is not until late on in the events of Kingdom Hearts II when Kairi gains her Keyblade from Riku. Her Keyblade is known as Destiny's Embrace, and she can summon it whenever she wants. It is perhaps important to note that Keyblades are tied to their wielders - if someone else picks it up, the Keyblade will return to its wielder automatically (from observation, it appears this only doesn't happen if it is in fact another Keyblade wielder that picks it up).

Fighting ability: In a physical fight, Kairi has no significant skills or ability to speak of, as she is untrained. She has never had the need to fight before events in The World That Never Was (or has been persuaded not to by Sora or Riku respectively), so when it comes to fighting, she is still very raw. It's not to say she's a weak fighter, however - she's strong willed, and is determined to learn and get better. When facing her first group of Heartless, she was able to bring several down alone, which is a significant accomplishment for anyone.

Magical ability: Kairi has latent magical ability, mostly relating to the fact she is a Princess of Heart. As a fighter, she doesn't have any spells known to her though certainly has the potential to learn them (due to the fact she wields a keyblade). The most common spells known by playable characters are Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, and Cure.

Princess of Heart: One of seven princesses with hearts of the purest light. Kairi is the seventh Princess of Heart. These princesses, whilst having the ability to reveal the final keyhole that will unlock all worlds, are also beacons of light in themselves. For one thing, they hold no darkness in their hearts, and darkness related abilities will have no effect upon Kairi. Should she lose her heart to the Heartless, her body does not transform into a Heartless, but stays in a dormant state as there is no darkness to convert to a Heartless in the first place. Aditionally, she is able to restore Sora's humanity after he becomes a Heartless - whether from her status as a Princess of Heart or from their connection with the other is unclear.

Kairi can sense darkness, and has also demonstrated the ability to see through lies when it comes to the darkness, as she could still see Riku's true face even when he appeared as Ansem (Xehanort's Heartless); she is always able to see the "light within", as it were.

Nobody: Kairi is a special case when it comes to the seven princesses as she has a Nobody. After leaving her body, her heart hid within Sora's. When Sora released his heart and Kairi's heart to bring her back, the process of her heart leaving his body resulted in a Nobody being born from her heart. This Nobody is Naminé. Naminé is a part of Kairi and whilst they are seperated, Kairi isn't truly whole. Even though the canon point is after they have united, for the sake of a potential Naminé application, the two have been separated.

First Person Sample:

Sora,

Riku, too.

I'm coming to find you.

I'm sorry. I know you asked me to stay, to wait for you; to wait for you both. I would happily, Sora, but...

But as much as that, I want to bring you home, both of you. Y'know? To see you back safe and sound. To go to the islands together again. To even just walk back home together again... all those things we took for granted back then. You'd think we'd have forever.

Every day you wake up, and wonder, if today will be the day, or if it drifts on, ever the same. You go through so much whilst I'm here. I might be safe, but that doesn't make you safe. We're in this together, afterall.

You're my best friends. And it's my turn to help you, any way I can.

- Kairi

Third Person Sample:

There was somebody there.

Not that she could remember. Her memories blocked - him, for she was sure it was a him - out, no matter how she tried. Sometimes there was a hazy, fuzzy outline when she tried to remember - sometimes nothing at all, just a presence, just the inkling that someone had played with her and Riku, though who exactly, she wasn't sure.

What was his name?

Why did her heart ache not knowing?

She felt terrible not knowing. He was so important, how could she forget?

No one else remembered. Sometimes Selphie, Tidus or Wakka talked about Riku, wondering where he'd gone. Sometimes her parents brought up why she didn't go the islands anymore without Riku. They never mentioned another boy. At times like that, it almost felt like her mind was playing tricks on her, using it as an explanation for why Riku had left, why the Heartless had taken her, why so many things had happened...

"Kairi, Riku-" she ticked the names off on her fingers. "... Kairi, Riku, and- ... - Him, Riku, Kairi..."

But nothing came to her. No name.

All she knew was that she wanted him to come back.

She looked out of her window, where she could see the sea, and their island in the distance.

"You'll come back. I know you will," she paused, before saying with conviction, "Both of you."

She wasn't dreaming. She had to remember, if she kept trying. She would.
